GEMPERA PROFILE

Gerakan Masyarakat untuk Perubahan dan Perdamaian (Gempera), The Social Action for Transformation and Peace is a non-profit organization headquartered in Mataram, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Basically, Gempera Foundation has been active since 2020 at the beginning of the emergence of Covid-19 in China which spread to Indonesia, but Gempera was officially registered at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights on January 24, 2023 with AHU Decree 0001133.AH.01.04 of 2023. Gempera was initiated by a group of young intellectuals from various disciplinary backgrounds to help build community confidence as agents and leaders of change for themselves and their environment. Gempera aims to strengthen the potential of the community as social agents in making changes in all sectors including in realizing social welfare and peace at the local and global levels. The mission of social change and peace by Gempra is in accordance with the priority programs of the SDGs and the values of Pacasila and the 1945 Constitution which adhere to the principle of equitable humanity.

Gempera is not only present to identify social problems that develop in the community, but also to directly offer and provide solutions to overcome the problems that occur. Gempera will fully involve the community in every program creation and implementation to obtain effective results. Gempera positions itself as a facilitator and mediator between the community and other agents to encourage collaboration and cooperation in overcoming problems in the community.

Gempera focuses on sustainable community development programs through strengthening civic education, cultural interrelation, conflict resolution, peace building discourse, social entrepreneurship, and environmental awareness. Sustainable community development is very important in the context of developing countries by providing capacity strengthening to the community as a new agency to change their own lives. Community development is a holistic field approach in the principles of empowerment, human rights, openness, justice, and initiative to determine their own actions for change for the better.
